wordpress plugin

ort_migrate

What is it for?

It's so you don't have to have the checklist to the side memorized.

If you're a web developer working with wordpress you'll have to move the files around somehow, it's something every developer has to learn and its a rite of passage, but to be frank even when at full speed the entire process takes a good 15-20 minutes that require me to pay attention.

So it's all scripted now, and its totally generic. It can be used on any wordpress version and works if you're just moving the files around in your server or if you're FTPing the files to somewhere else in the world.

What's it like

ort_migrate installs into the tools section of the admin dashboard. When it's first ran it will run some tests on your server to see if all the tools necessary to move exist on your server. If it passes then you're given the option to either move the wordpress locally (on the same server) or via FTP.

When moving locally ort_migrate tries to help out as much as possible by offering to use the same settings as you currently have.

FAQs

  1. Why is FTP Taking so Long!
The whole size of your wordpress site can vary massively, in testing it ranged from 5m to 50m. This means the time sending the files over can range from 5 minutes to and hour or two, as long as it says its doing something. It is.

All code is open source blah blah the usual, if everything breaks don't blame me? It's been tested on a bunch of different setups.
If you're extra paranoid then grab the SQL file and the Zip file from the progress boxes and save those locally for a backup.
